Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

My name is Olya, I'm a teacher and teacher trainer based in St. Petersburg, Russia. Currently I've got two jobs: in company, where I mainly teach Business English and run a professional development scheme for our team of teachers, and in our local CELTA centre, where I work as a tutor on CELTA courses. I've also recently trained up as a local Delta tutor.

I'm really looking forward to doing this course because so far my professional development has been heavily influenced by Cambridge, and I feel that time has come to explore alternatives. :) Also, I've dipped into two books by John F. Fanselow and been very inspired by instantly seeing how many options I've been overlooking.

Regarding my experience with reflective teaching, I think I'm a fairly reflective practitioner. As a teacher trainer, I try to avoid prescribing solutions when I give feedback on lessons, trying instead to give the teacher space and support in analyzing what happened in class. As a teacher, I keep experimenting and reflect quite a lot, and I also regularly record and analyze my lessons, but I think I need to develop a much more consistent approach to assessing results of those experiments.

My previous experience with iTDi (the course on creating ELT materials with Katherine Bilsborough) was amazing - we had a very supportive community and I enjoyed every minute of the course. I'm very excited to be back and to be doing the course with all of you! :)

  8. Olya, As I said to others I am keen to learn how Business English is similar to and different from Regular English. Do your students read The Economist or Business Week or other magazines devoted to business?

Do you think Trump speaks business English? Stupid question! He does I think speak hate English which is a huge problem in the world.

  9. Olya, you seem to have been already doing much of what I will be advocating in the course. So it will be important for you to share your experiences doing analysis. I would like to hear how how what CELTA advocates and what I advocate are in tune and not in tune.
